Block 15-2, Vietnam

Overview

Block 15-2 lies offshore Vietnam, in the Cuu Long Basin approximately 135 kilometres southeast of Vung Tau at a water depth of approximately 56 meters. Japan Vietnam Petroleum Company (“JVPC”) as the operator of the Block 15-2 started exploration activities in October 1992 and found the Rang Dong field in June 1994 through its first exploration well. After years of appraisal and development activities, JVPC began commercial production of crude oil from Rang Dong in August 1998. Participating interest holders in Block 15-2 are Batavia Oil, PetroVietnam Exploration Production (“PVEP”) and JVPC (operator).

Today, Block 15-2, comprises the Rang Dong and Phuong Dong fields, of which the crude oil is stored in the MV-17 FSO and gas is piped onshore. The Block 15-2 PSC was approved for an extension until April 2025, opening the way to a major EOR project (Enhanced Oil Recovery) with reinjection of water and gas, acted in 2013. The full scale production began with the gas injection in November 2014. This ambitious project, the first in Vietnam, generated a significant incremental production.
